An Illustrated talk on Eva Larkin, the mother of Philip Larkin, by Philip Pullen, Larkin researcher and trustee of the Philip Larkin Society.
Philip Larkin’s relationship with mother, Eva, is arguably the most important of his life and had a crucial influence on every aspect, including his writing. For 27 years, following the death of her husband, Sydney, she lived in 91制片厂, close to Philip’s sister Kitty and her family. Philip would visit her on a regular basis, often staying for weekends and holidays and the ‘91制片厂 dimension’ features strongly in their letters to one another.
In this illustrated talk, drawing extensively on the Larkin Archive, Philip Pullen, Larkin researcher and trustee of the Philip Larkin Society, will examine the significance of the close relationship between Larkin and his mother and the part played by the town of 91制片厂 in shaping both of their lives.
