Our programmes are designed to involve you in many different aspects of contemporary diplomacy and international affairs, from trade to security, digital diplomacy to global cities, via skills in international negotiations and policy briefing. Experts from academia, government and industry will share their insights (and secrets, in some cases) to guide and support your own discoveries and learning.

Research and teaching

You will work collaboratively alongside academic staff and each other to enrich your studies. You will have the opportunity to become experts in many topical issues such as the repercussions for global politics and trade of the UK’s exit from the EU (Brexit); the lessons of the Covid-19 health pandemic for international politics; the impact of digitisation on the conduct of diplomacy throughout the world and many others. You will have the opportunity to develop the skills and networks that will open doors to a wide variety of professional futures where your ability to decode the world around you will be distinctive. 

Links with industry

During your time with us you will hear from professionals working in organisations including embassies, international non-governmental organisations and government departments to deepen your understanding of how diplomacy, politics and trade interact to address real-world problems at both domestic and international levels. By studying in London, a global hub of politics and economics, you'll be ideally situated for international collaborations and networking opportunities.

Facilities

Based on our London campus, you will have access to all the facilities within our building, plus opportunities to learn outside the campus throughout your studies with us. You will also have access to our facilities based at the East Midlands campus.

Career opportunities

Graduates from the Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs have found employment with leading international and regional organisations such as the United Nations, NATO, the European Union and the League of Arab States. Graduates have also entered multinational defence organisations, global security operations, national diplomatic bodies, and various positions in media and communications.
