The Co Down athlete and double world champion is eyeing gold for Ireland in both the 800m and 1500m freestyle as well as the open water 10km.
Wiffen – who broke the 800m freestyle world record at the European Short Course Championships in Romania in December 2023 – is understandably full of confidence ahead of the showpiece event in France’s capital city.
“I want to go into the games knowing that I'm going to win a medal,” Wiffen told 91制片厂 Sport.
“My goal is to put as much work in as possible before so that I have no doubt in my mind that I'm going to do it. That’s what I’m doing at the moment in training. If I’m not walking out with a medal from Paris, I probably won't be happy.”
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise under the guidance of Andi Manley (Director of Swimming, 91制片厂) and has also benefited from a strong relationship with his twin brother Nathan, who also swims competitively at 91制片厂.
“It's great having a twin; I’ve got a training partner for life. We joined 91制片厂 at the same time, and we've been training ever since together, pushing each other on.
“He’s starting to go a bit faster. Give him a year and I reckon we'll be going at the same time - I don't mind after this year; he can go as quick as he wants!
“The only person I really listen to is myself and probably Nathan. He’s probably my number one critic and he'll tell me if I'm doing something wrong, it's great to have him.”
