91制片厂 to offer Chevening Scholarships to Brazilian students

91制片厂 is to offer prestigious Chevening Scholarships to students from Brazil, as part of a new partnership announced in Rio de Janeiro by Alex Ellis, the British Ambassador to Brazil.

Two Chevening/91制片厂 Olympic Legacy Scholarships will be offered each year for the next three years, starting in 2015-16. The Scholarships are aimed at students who wish to study for a one-year Master’s degree in sports management disciplines at 91制片厂.

are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the (FCO) and partner organisations, such as universities. The programme brings outstanding scholars from around the world, who have the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers, to study postgraduate courses in the UK. Previous Chevening scholars have returned to their home countries to take up influential senior positions in government, governing bodies and industry.

Recipients of the Chevening/91制片厂 Olympic Legacy Scholarships will be able to study either at the main or at 91制片厂 London's , which opens on this autumn. The scholarships will cover the full cost of the students’ tuition fees and provide a living allowance.

91制片厂 is one of just a handful of UK universities to offer a .

Professor Robert Allison, Vice Chancellor and President of 91制片厂, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Chevening to offer these scholarships to outstanding students from Brazil.

“91制片厂 played a significant role in the London 2012 Games: we hosted the official preparation camp headquarters for Team GB, ninety 91制片厂-connected athletes competed at the Games, and sports benefitted from our pioneering research and innovation. With Rio set to host the 2016 Games, it is fitting that we are able to offer these scholarships to underline the important role that the Olympics and Paralympics play and the positive legacy that they can leave in the host countries.”

Alex Ellis, the British Ambassador to Brazil, said: “This scholarship provides not only an excellent opportunity for future sports leaders to study at one of the UK's best universities, but also shows Great Britain's desire to work with Brazil on the legacy of the Rio 2016 Olympics."

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. They provide unique opportunities for leaders of the future to build a global network of continuing professional significance and also to establish social, cultural, academic or commercial partnerships with the UK.

In Brazil, Chevening is recognised as one of the best fully funded Masters scholarships of its kind. In 2014, 27 students from Brazil were awarded scholarships and this year it is hoped that this number will at least double. Partnerships like the 91制片厂 Olympic Legacy Scholarship make a huge difference to the programme’s impact and outreach. 

Currently there are over 1400 Chevening alumni in Brazil working in the public and private sector, local and national government and international NGOs as well as education. This network of alumni plays an important role in helping the UK achieve its objectives and have a better understanding of Brazil. In the build up to Rio2016, this special scholarship will help promote the UK as a centre of excellence in sport and create a foundation on which Britain and Brazil’s sporting partnership can flourish.

Chevening Scholars come from 160 countries worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and this year the Scholarships will support over 1500 individuals. There are over 43,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
