Year 12 students get a Headstart in engineering courses at 91制片厂

School students from across the country are visiting 91制片厂 this week as part of the annual Headstart programme.

Engineering and Systems Engineering Headstart events are taking place with nearly 100 year 12 students attending altogether.

Whilst at the campus, students will take part in a wide range of activities and attend lectures to find out more about engineering. They will also be meeting with current engineering students, finding out how to apply for degree programmes and engaging in some social activities in the evening.

Students on the general Engineering programme will experience a wide variety of lectures at a taster level and will also have an industrial visit to JCB.

Those on the Systems Engineering taster course will learn about two real Systems and Electronics Engineering projects in more detail.

Headstart is run in collaboration with the Engineering Development Trust, the events are designed to help year 12 students to develop an insight and understanding into engineering ahead of their University applications in September.

Claire Fletcher, Events Officer in Student Recruitment, Marketing and Admissions, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming year 12 students onto campus once again for the Headstart programme. We hope that students develop a taste of University life and a further understanding of engineering as a degree choice ahead of their University applications in autumn.

“It’s never easy to make that all important University choice, so we’re happy to support the Headstart programme and offer an insight to potential engineering students.”

Commenting on the Systems Engineering programme, Amanda Pearce, External Relations Manager at the School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, said: “These students have never met each other before yet they are working closely in teams to tackle real engineering problems and have risen to the two separate and quite different challenges amazingly well. I hope that this week will give students an appetite for this type of work which will lead them into really rewarding and exciting careers.”
